I want people to stop burning trash because patients and elderly people like me cannot tolerate it. The environment and air should be clean so that we can live longer.

میں چاہتی ہوں کہ لوگ کچرا جلانا بند کریں کیونکہ مریض اور مجھ جیسے بزرگ اسے برداشت نہیں کر سکتے۔ ماحول اور ہوا صاف ہونی چاہیے تاکہ ہم زیادہ دیر تک زندہ رہ سکیں۔

The garbage at the entrance and exit of our area is the result of the actions of people within the neighborhood. In that sense, it is our collective responsibility and reflects the consequences of our own behavior. People choose these spaces out of convenience and ease of access, using them as dumping grounds for trash. Others then follow and continue throwing garbage there.

It creates a very negative impression, yet no meaningful action is being taken, even though everyone knows it affects the image of our area, our community, and the residential neighborhood we live in. The issue continues to be neglected.

A large number of people pass through this area every day, including guests, friends, or colleagues visiting from outside. The garbage dump becomes the first impression they have of Qayyumabad.

Since childhood, we have been taught in school to maintain cleanliness in our surroundings because it reflects who we are. Of course, people can only take care of their own homes and immediate streets, but the entrance and exit points of the area should also be the responsibility of the authorities. They live here too, and they have the authority and power to take action and improve the situation.

We may have the willingness, but we do not have the authority. This should be treated as a collective responsibility. I remember that in the past the garbage was removed, but people continued littering there afterward. This remains a major issue in Qayyumabad, and hopefully it will be resolved within our lifetime.

ہمارے علاقے کے داخلی اور خارجی راستوں پر موجود کچرا اسی محلے کے لوگوں کے عمل کا نتیجہ ہے۔ اس لحاظ سے یہ ہماری اجتماعی ذمہ داری بھی ہے اور ہمارے اپنے رویّوں کا عکس بھی۔ لوگ اپنی سہولت اور آسان رسائی کی وجہ سے اس جگہ کو کچرا پھینکنے کے لیے استعمال کرتے ہیں، اور پھر دوسرے لوگ بھی ایک دوسرے کو دیکھ کر وہیں کچرا پھینکنا شروع کر دیتے ہیں۔

یہ ہمارے علاقے، ہماری کمیونٹی، اور اس رہائشی ماحول کے لیے ایک بہت برا تاثر پیدا کرتا ہے، لیکن اس کے باوجود کوئی مؤثر قدم نہیں اٹھایا جا رہا۔ سب جانتے ہیں کہ یہ مسئلہ موجود ہے، مگر اسے مسلسل نظر انداز کیا جا رہا ہے۔

بہت سے لوگ روزانہ اس راستے سے گزرتے ہیں، یہاں تک کہ اگر باہر سے کوئی مہمان، دوست، یا دفتر سے کوئی شخص آئے، تو قیوم آباد کے بارے میں ان کا پہلا تاثر یہی کچرے کا ڈھیر بنتا ہے۔

بچپن سے ہمیں اسکول میں سکھایا گیا کہ اپنے اردگرد کی صفائی کا خیال رکھو کیونکہ وہ آپ کی نمائندگی کرتی ہے۔ ظاہر ہے لوگ اپنے گھر اور اپنی گلی تک تو صفائی رکھ سکتے ہیں، لیکن علاقے کے داخلی اور خارجی راستوں کی ذمہ داری متعلقہ اداروں کی بھی ہونی چاہیے۔ وہ بھی یہیں رہتے ہیں، اور ان کے پاس اختیار اور طاقت ہے کہ اس مسئلے پر کام کریں اور عملی قدم اٹھائیں۔

ہمارے پاس ارادہ تو ہے، لیکن اختیار نہیں۔ یہ ایک اجتماعی ذمہ داری ہونی چاہیے۔ مجھے یاد ہے کہ پہلے بھی یہاں سے کچرا اٹھایا گیا تھا، لیکن اس کے بعد بھی لوگ وہیں کچرا پھینکتے رہے۔ یہ قیوم آباد کا ایک بڑا مسئلہ ہے، اور امید ہے کہ ہماری زندگی میں کبھی نہ کبھی اس کا حل نکل آئے گا۔

Qayyumabad’s population is around 1.5 to 2 lakh (150,000 to 200,000), but the infrastructure is failing. The streets are not properly built, and the naalas (stormwater drains) are overflowing.

I have been appointed as a councillor twice, and during those times, the streets were constructed. But now there are many water problems due to leaks. There is also frequent gas load shedding in the area. However, for us, it still feels like heaven because we have lived here since childhood. Old residents like Azeem Chacha, Ghulam Hussain Chacha, Uncle Saba, and Aunty Nazeer, who was the councillor for minorities, did a lot for this neighborhood.

The new councillors are trying, but their work has little impact. Pollution has increased significantly, and many old residents have sold their houses to new people who now live on rent. The land-grabbing mafia is active here. On the main street, land is being illegally occupied by groups taking over plots. There is no proper system of monitoring or accountability.
